Youth & Family - This Month!

March 2018

If you are having Olympic withdrawals like I am, then maybe we can get together and watch Chariots of Fire or discuss memorable moments... And for everyone else, spring training is just around the corner, March Madness is upon us, and spring sports are here. If you’re looking for something else, there are several new movies that are inspiring, gardening is a possibility if it ever warms up, and then there is even a paint party or two you could go to. The activities are endless! You just need to look around and see what sparks your interest or what you might like to try.

The Out to Dinner group will be going to the Irishmen in Everett on the 6th. If you would like to join us we will be leaving Silvana at 5pm and plan to meet there at 5:30. The Irishmen has a very good review and a few of us have eaten there and enjoyed a tasty dinner.

The Out to Lunch Bunch will be going to an Irish pub on the 20th. As of right now I’m not sure of the location, but I’m sure it will be interesting and maybe a little exciting. I will post in the bulletin the location and time as soon as I have the information.

During this season of Lent we have not been having youth group, but we have been gathering during the dinner for various projects and a time to share how things are going. Youth group will start back up on the 18th of April with dinner and game night.

On Sunday March 18th the youth will be leaving after church for lunch and an afternoon of fun. This is open to all middle and high school youth. If you would like to join us, please give me a call.

The Youth and Mission Team will be hosting the Easter breakfast this year. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 9:30 and the menu is coffee cake of brown sugar, blueberry, and raspberry flavors, along with ham, eggs, and fruit. This year the monies collected will go to World Mission Prayer League missionaries Kathi and Mark Williams, who serve in China.

Hands for Peacemaking - March Mission of the Month

Hands for Peacemaking is an organization that many members of the church have had an opportunity to work alongside. Did you know that Guatemala has the 3rd highest rate of malnutrition in the world? 30,000 people die from water related illness each year there- 90% of them are children! Hands for Peacemaking’s mission is to promote opportunities for self-reliance in rural Guatemala. Hands for Peacemaking works through a myriad of projects aimed at increasing the quality of life, health, and education for Guatemala’s poor. We have teams that go in and work alongside the villagers to install Aler wood cook stoves, build schools, build desks, build water storage facilities, and much more.

Lutheran World Relief

Lutheran World Relief asks us to join into its programs in the season of Lent. What better time to help meet the world’s needs as Christ asks us to do. The LWR website provides a Lenten series that can be downloaded to deepen our understanding of what Christ asks us to do or be.

LWR in general focuses on sustainable farming to meet a community’s need for healthy food and increasing productivity. Its particular focus during Lent is feeding hungry families headed by farmers who are facing drought.
